Raskl are a design studio and workshop based in Newcastle. They offer a range of handmade furniture as well as taking on commissions for bespoke pieces. Their products range from full scale room installations, bespoke office furniture to unique homeware. With a focus on design, their approach is to treat each piece as the opportunity to create something innovative. Whether that's in the materials used or the way in which the piece is constructed. To align their brand with their products and services, we created a fresh identity. With a growing reputation for their work, we helped Raskl's brand evolve to feel more refined, considered and mature.
Raskl have a very personal relationship with their work, every piece is carefully considered and handcrafted. We wanted to incorporate this approach and attention to detail in their brand. To capture their uniqueness, we created a bespoke typeface, Raskl Sans. The concept behind the typeface was based on Raskl's 'maker doer' approach to business. The sans serif typeface is light, rounded and friendly in tone, using subtle breaks in the lettering. Its handcrafted feel reflects the brand and the handmade nature of Raskl's products.
With its clean lines and minimal aesthetic, Raskl's bespoke typeface became a key influence on the brand's visual identity, both across their site and printed collateral. This drew on the nature of Raskl's design and engineering work, and created a unique visual style. By taking the angles of certain letters, we created shapes that could be used across the site to house content. For the website itself, we created a clean and modern design that gave Raskl's products centre stage.
